POSE has always been about community and one of the things we do well is elevate the voice of others. Through our cultural community center COCO Brown (a partnership between POSE and founder Kat Everett) we are able to be more intentional about supporting women of color as entrepreneurs. Kat Everett is not new to supporting women of color become more confident and established, coming from a family of 7 girls Kat came up valuing sisterhood as a network. Kat's work ranges from 22 years of counseling young girls and women, mentoring women of all backgrounds in the community, and consulting with emerging leaders such as guiding Founder Letriah Masters in establishing her business Merrimack Valley Music & Arts as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. After counseling many other potential entities Kat published a body of work to assist anyone considering starting a nonprofit called “So you want to start a nonprofit? you want to start a nonprofit?” In true Kat fashion (pun intended) Kat is utilizing this event to uplift another female entrepreneur of color Mary Arias.

With confidence and grace when asked “how would you describe yourself?” Mary replied “As a beautiful Latina woman” and that she is! Mary is a mom of 4 who has worked hard to improve her life for her and her children. Mary and Kat met at church and grew close when Mary’s girls attended “The Center” a community youth center formerly run by POSE Inc. Mary states that she has “been through a lot” and has pushed hard not just to provide for her kids, but to show her girls that strong, loving, successful women can do and overcome anything! In addition to launching X-Press Yourself Boutique, Mary currently works full-time as a Program Administrator for a youth-centered nonprofit, and is a Criminal Justice major at Northern Essex Community College graduating this June, then continuing her education at Southern New Hampshire University this coming fall.

You won’t want to miss this!
