Thu, May 30
|COCO Brown
Join us for our Monthly Women's Bookclub Meet-Up. For May we are trying something different. We will explore poetry by women of color and come prepared to share one piece each.

Time & Location
May 30, 2019, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
COCO Brown, 293 Washington Street, Haverhill, MA, USA
About the event
Thursday May 30th 2019 from 7 - 10 PM (Discussion starts at 8).
This bookclub is for those that identify as women. It is a safe space for those who enjoy intellectual conversation and can handle respectful dialogue (and debate). It's for the Queens who are seeking meaningful, thought provoking discussions; who are confident enough to have their ideas challenged, or are seeking to deep dive into human thought and process. Our discussions and reading center around the following categories: race, religion, gender identity, feminism, womanism, social justice, anti-racist, equity, inclusion, diversity, education.
This months discussion will be led by Dr. Trilla. We decided to study the work of black women poets for our April's book club gathering. Folks should select an author to study and choose a poem that resonates with you to share with us at our next gathering. You can post it, read it, show a You Tube reading of it, analyze it, or just let our collective voices respond to it at our next session.
Just a few remarkable poets are:
June Jordan
Ashlee Haze (spoken word)
Lucille Clifton
Nikki Giovanni
Maya Angelou
Sonia Renee (spoken word)
Gwendolyn Brooks
Nikita Gil
Audre Lorde
Siaara Freeman (spoken word)
Crystal Valentine (spoken word)
Explore the rich body of poetry by black women and be inspired. The discussion will be on the themes that arise from the reading. You do not need to have read to participate in the discussion.
Cost: $10
